Great article, it has always been a problem in our communities that people don’t like to work for economic and business development but love to quote others. Just like back in the day when a lot of black people love wearing Malcolm X baseball caps and shirts but had no real concept of what he was all about.

I completely agree with your statement that if blacks would realize their economic power many things could change for the better. I believe the black church is the key to achieving this but the church which at one time was a powerful institution in the community that helped in the development of the black folks as fallen off track. Greed, corruption and unfortunately even perversion have taken a firm hold and steered it off its path. I know the black churches first and foremost mission is to preach Christianity from the Scriptures, but it could and should be also used to bring some economic, financial, social and political stability to our communities. This could only be accomplished with good and honest leadership which most churches lack today. There is no reason why in the twenty first century every city with a relative black population can’t have a thriving black owned and operated credit union offering many financial services, a professional business network and even private schools for children. I know what I’m saying sounds like a wish list but it is possible with the proper leadership. We as a people have sat by too long and watched every other racial group and special interest group leap frog the black community economically and financially

I am a recent reader of your blog and I really enjoy your content for the most part. You touch on the most salient points the concern the existence of African descendants. Where I feel you fall short is in your warning at the end of your article. You state, “You have been warned”! By stating this, are you suggesting the reader has the ability to avoid the threat or change it somehow, If so, how? Certainly you are not suggesting that the reader go to polls to vote. In the article, you even question the polls that state the position of the participants. If the polls are suspect, how can the results of voting avoid the same scrutiny? I contend the evidence is overwhelming against the efficacy of voting and too numerous to mention here. The African descendent is in a precarious position (to some degree of his/her own making) and is in need of solutions. If you are in a position to possess some solutions, please pose them and we would be most appreciative.
Please don’t take this as criticism, but as request for direction if you will. With your suggestions on the coming of Newt Gingrich, the same advice applies with the present occupant in the oval office. So, I await in further blogs any solutions you have to offer and please keep up the good work. Hotep.

Thanks so much for your encouragement. It is vital that our young people be taught about true economic empowerment and the role it and they play in our society with their dollars. Keep teaching!

I just came from my daughters school where we were told by "our" people told me it was a requirement to by two pairs of $100 dollar tennis shoes to play basketball. A prime example of what your saying. I just read your article to my daughter so she could understand my frustration. Thank you for the TRUTH you bring in this article!

I appreciate your feedback, my Brother. Other than some of your misconstrued inferences, I think we agree on a few points. Other than that, on the balance, I will simply say that we must agree to disagree.
